Promoting Government Accountability

Government that works for its citizens must be open and accountable, use public resources fairly and efficiently, apply the rule of law and provide the public with information and opportunities for participation. Government officials who abuse their power for private gain waste public resources and lose the trust of those they are meant to serve.

TI-USA works to increase government transparency, strengthen institutions, enable citizen oversight and ultimately ensure that governments are accountable to the public. In the US, TI-USA focuses on promoting ethical standards for public officials in all branches of government, limiting undue influence and expanding access to information.

TI-USA’s international agenda is based on enforcement of global and regional conventions that call for anti-corruption laws and practices, and on free trade agreements and dialogues among nations that promote legal and regulatory transparency.
